Elizabeth Taylor and Charles Schulz Connection

5 Apr

Yes, that headline is correct. I came across a great anecdote while browsing “Snoopy’s Guide to the Writing Life,” a fun compilation of Schulz’s “Peanuts” strips showing Snoopy in “It was a dark and stormy night” mode along with short essays on the writing life from writers the likes of Elmore Leonard, Danielle Steel and Ray Bradbury.

In the foreword, Monte Schulz, son of Charles, aka Sparky, tells the story of his father being seated in a restaurant near Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. He was trying to get up the courage to approach them when Taylor and Burton come over to HIS table and said, “We don’t want to disturb you, but we’re both big fans of yours and wanted to meet you.”

All legends in their own right, and isn’t it nice to know Taylor and Burton appreciated Schulz’s humor?
